What is health coaching?

It is an emerging field that not many people have heard of and even fewer understand what it entails.
There is an abundance of health-related information at our fingertips.  Often the messages presented conflict with one another, oversimplify complex situations, or mislead people.  It can be overwhelming and confusing.

Most people are looking for ways to improve their health.  Whether that means losing a few pounds, destressing, sleeping better, increasing energy, or catching fewer colds.  But with the confusion and overwhelm many people do not know where to start.  And those that do manage to make a start, many find it hard to maintain.

A health coach helps you to find your starting place and helps keep you on track, so that the changes you make will continue to improve your health long term.

Health coaches:

  • facilitate healthy, sustainable behaviour changes
  • challenge clients to develop an inner wisdom about their bodies and their health
  • help to identify values and obstacles
  • help clients transform goals into action
  • mentor, educate, guide, inspire, and motivate their clients

Health coaches look beyond just nutrition to all areas of your life that could be compromising your health.  Foods you eat (or don’t eat), sleep habits, stress levels, mindset, and toxic load can all affect your health.  Health coaches help to identify the things in your life that are sabotaging your health. They help you clarify your health goals and motivations. They look to identify what changes are right for you and the obstacles that may be holding you back.  Health coaches offer the knowledge, support, and accountability necessary for you to achieve your health goals

Because each person is different, with different genetics, experiences, beliefs, responsibilities and goals, health coaches work with each individual to customize a plan optimized for them.  Health coaches make up an integral part of your health-care team, working closely with your doctor, chiropractor, acupuncturist, osteopath, energy healer, massage therapist and physical therapist.
